Neodymium fluoride crystals such as Nd:YLF are interesting for medium-high power diode-pumping: they allow the generation of beams with excellent spatial quality, as well as significantly reduced thermal lensing with respect to Nd:YAG or Nd:YVO{sub}4 crystals. Nd:BaY{sub}2F{sub}8 is a fluoride laser crystal which was less investigated in the past, although its laser properties might be as attractive as those of Nd: YLF. Recently we reported a detailed investigation of a low-power diode-pumped Nd:BaY{sub}2F{sub}8.
