The purpose of the study is to evaluate the heattransfer capability of the SNF (Spent Nuclear Fuel) cask,OASIS (Optimized And Safe Interim Storage System)-32D,which is developed by KEPCO E&C. The OASIS-32Dcontains 32 fuel assemblies, which have been cooled for10 years of operation in a pressurized water reactors andhave dual purpose of transport and storage of the SNFs.The OASIS-32D cask is composed of fuel storage canister,basket, reinforces support, neutron shielding material,heat transfer fins, and so on.The SNF cask is designed to provide adequate heatremoval capacity in accordance with 10 CFR Part 71, 72and NUREG-1536, 1617. This paper introduces thermalbehaviors of the OASIS-32D SNF cask consideringconjugated heat transfer including conduction, convectionand radiation.The CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) methodologywas adopted to evaluate the PCT (Peak CladTemperature) and heat transfer phenomena affected byinternal flow path of the OASIS-32D SNF cask. Theevaluation results shows that maximum PCT andoperating temperature of material do not exceedallowable limit temperature considering effects of decayheat generation, internal fluid conditions and externalheat transfer coefficient.
