One of the thermal requirements for the concrete cask is that the concrete temperature is maintained below the maximum allowable temperature. IHI carried out heat loading tests using a full-scale prototype concrete cask to confirm the thermal performance and concrete temperature distribution in normal storage and transfer conditions. Each experimental case was analyzed using numerical analytical codes to verify each experimental results. Analytical results are in good agreement with the experiments. Concrete cask thermal performance could be evaluated through heat load tests and numerical analyses. The results showed that the analytical model is applicable to the concrete cask design.
