The past 10 years have seen the development of Doctor of Education in China. However, there are some problems in the training, like the Ed.D students lacking of practical ability, the practical deviation of training objectives, and the convergence training with Ph.D. in education, which has restricted the improvement of the training quality of Ed.D. Action research is highly regarded in the field of educational practice research with its focus on combining theory with practice and solving practical problems. It is an effective method for Ed.D training in China with its unique value: providing reform ideas, solving practical problems and improving the quality of training.
