The calculation of the force transmitted in a gear train is important when it is geometrically related to the number of teeth of the gears or the diameter of action. The speed ratio that is established between the two elements, is related to the speed, the torque developed, and even the acceleration. When a mechanical element is modeled parametrically, it is of greater advantage, because with a change of one mathematical parameter, the model has been adjusted in the equation and parameters table, with this single design the designer has the ability to create a toolbox useful for their own design purposes. This paper shows the performance of a parametric design of a spur gear with SolidWorks CAD tool. With the support of this design, it shows the construction of a simple gear train, the calculation of the speed ratio, as well as its impact on the calculation of the power and torque and how the gear is involved.
