LNG BUNKERING SHIPS

LNG as a marine fuel is taking a position as one of the more interesting solutions to comply with stringent environmental regulations for ships. Global sulphur cap of 0,5% establish recently by the IMO will probably drive shipowners to consider clean fuels instead of cleaning systems eventually for bigger ships involved in world trade. Small scale LNG carriers with ability to perform LNG bunker operations have become nowadays a clear new trend in LNG shipping to respond to an expected growing demand for LNG as marine fuel. Bureau Veritas was first involved in the certification of small scale LNG carriers more than ten years ago and has become a leader these days in the certification of LNG bunkering ships. Among others Bureau Veritas developed in 2015 specific regulations for the assessment of LNG bunker ships. The regulation NR.620 covers safety issues and is currently the instrument to grant the service notation LNG bunkering ship.
