Adaptive learning is an educational method using computers as interactive learning devices to allocate teaching resources, based on individual students' level of knowledge and comprehension. Adaptive learning gives each student an individualized learning path based on his/her strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Students work through modules at their own pace and are directed through computer programming to more complex concepts as they demonstrate mastery of each level. While traditional teaching methods focus on achieving minimum competencies, adaptive learning is focused on raising each student to his/her highest level of comprehension. The computer-based format allows students to work through case scenarios at their own pace in a low stakes environment.
