Modellers, planners and policy makers are actively pursuing automation as a mobility option. But little actual automation content in Long-range plans (US)/ Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (EU) There is a growing consensus about the direction of opportunities and challenges. Shared mobility and last mile transport are priority areas. Common question: what will be the new mix of shared/ on demand, mainstream collective and personal ownership-based transport (and cycling and walking) Uncertainties about deployment, user response and impacts are major barriers to more concrete planning. Missing data and methodologies are a major professional challenge. Pilots are providing a basis to verify assumptions and collect data. Is there a new playbook metropolitan mobility planning being written?
