Verifying that all of the computers and simulations are properly configured is an issue for all distributed events. Distributed event organizers have used different versions of federation agreements. This were often ad-hoc creations for each event. To address this need, SISO developed the Federation Engineering Agreements Template, SISO-STD-012-2013. Once the data is collected and documented in the Federation Agreement, there is no automated way to determine if all of the computers and simulations are configured correctly. Trideum Corporation developed a tool to assist in managing distributed events based on the data in the federation agreement. The tool displays a nested organizational structure of equipment being used for a particular distributed event. This tool uses FEAT as a means to pull in node information such as location, operating system, etc. While the FEAT standard provides a good starting point, there are several ways in which it could be improved to better facilitate the needs of tools like this. This paper will describe the lessons learned from implementing FEAT in the tool. Presently, some parameters have had to be overloaded to allow for the mapping of multiple hardware components to a single virtual entity. These issues could be avoided if the FEAT standard provided both the concept of an entity list and a means to map an entity to its respective hardware. Additionally, the Points of Contact (PoC) listing could be greatly enhanced by adding location references.
