The pump shaft generally exposed either to liquids, which pumped continuously, or in certain locations along the shaft. The shaft material is Duplex Stainless Steel AISI 329H (UNS S32900). The purpose of this study is to determine the failure of the seawater pump shaft used in the engine cooling system on the ship anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS). Visual observation is the study of SWCP (Sea Water Cooling Pump) shaft material. The SEM test used to determine the initial crack (crack initiation). The EDS test used for chemical composition and the Brinell Hardness Tester hardness test also used to determine material hardness. Voltage analysis used to find out how much load received by the shaft. These five tests support in analyzing pump shaft failure. The conclusion of this failure analysis is that the shaft material has porosity. Fatigue cracks originate from the outer surface area of the shaft.
