This study aims to determine the characteristics of salt hydrolysis material in chemistry at senior high school, and describes an appropriate model to teach salt hydrolysis materials using spectrum models level of inquiry Wenning. The spectrum model level of inquiry Wenning's is divided into 6 namely, discovery learning, interactive demonstration, inquiry lesson, inquiry laboratory, real-world application and hypothetical inquiry. This research is a qualitative description based on data. This study uses a sample of 120 students at senior high school, 3 chemistry teachers in high school and literature review. The results showed that salt hydrolysis material is more suitable to teach using inquiry laboratory because students are at inquiry laboratory level of 26.67%. The salt hydrolysis material has abstract and complex characteristics. Inquiry laboratory facilitates students in finding concepts and knowledge on abstract and complex material, so that the material on salt hydrolysis is suitable using inquiry laboratory model.
