The Meta-Value of Yogacara Buddhism

Both Chinese and foreign intellectuals and scholars highly revere Xuanzang's ideology of Consciousness-Only as well as its related genre of Yogacara Buddhism and have dedicated considerable time and effort into related research. Moreover, beyond the value associated with its theory and principles, is the realistic value of Yogacara. More specifically, the realistic value refers to the realization of the eighth consciousness, tathagatagarbha, which in turn manifests the meta-value as a result of implementing the Yogacara teachings. Therefore, whether Yogacara is referred to as Xuanzang genre, Consciousness-Only zong, or Consciousness-Only school, its core essence should not deviate from the original intent of Xuanzang, which is the eighth consciousness, tathagatagarbha.
