Max Shulman is a 20th century American writer, best known for his short stories. His writing style is always humorous. Hence most of studies on "Love is a Fallacy" in academic world mainly concentrate on his writing style and analysis of features of characters. In fact, this short novel entails rich rhetoric devices, among which the metaphor adds much color to this work, making readers easier to understand it. Therefore, this paper tries to put forward an example by analyzing three types of metaphors in this novel in order to help students master and appreciate it better in American literature teaching so as to fostertheir appreciating ability.
