Translating China's Public Signs into Good English: A Perspective of Linguistic Landscape

As part of linguistic landscape, English public signs play a significant role in promoting international communication for a city and boosting its overall image to tourists from home and abroad. Various monolingual (English) and bilingual (Chinese and English) signs in China, however, are found to be erroneous and misleading despite multiple positive endeavors. Causes underlying these errors are tracked down and analyzed. A quality control mechanism is proposed to address the indecent urban English landscape issue.
