The paper deals with the problem of potential rise in the earthing system at the moment when the fault current flows in the earthing system. In the case where another earthing system is in the area of influence of the present earthing system, potential rise can also appear in another earthing system. The difference of these potentials is characterised as a step and touch voltage, which can be dangerous for living beings who come into contact with the earthing system or in its immediate vicinity. The paper analyses the earthing system of the transmission tower of the electrical power transmission system. The earthing system of nearby building is in the vicinity of the transmission tower and belongs to the distribution system. In the case of earth fault on transmission line, the assessment of potential rise will be given for the earthing system of nearby building that is connected to the distribution system. It will be also discussed about the possible potential raise of the transmission line earthing system, due to the potential rise in nearby building earthing system. This potential rise will run current through the lightning conductor. For the analysis will be used the measurements performed on real objects.
