The current situation, problems and prospects of research on farmland pressure in China

摘要

Farmland resources and their availability are directly related to the food security of a country or a region. In recent years, farmland pressure evaluation has become one of the hottest areas of study in China. This paper, by employing the literature study and comparative method, makes an analysis from three aspects -- from the concept of farmland pressure, the study perspectives and models and from the content and methodology thereof. It then draws a conclusion of the main features of farmland pressure studies conducted by far in China, based on which the major problems in these studies and evaluations are then identified. The outlook and mainstream study direction is presented in hope of facilitating the nationwide deepening of farmland pressure study and providing a valuable and solid base for decision-making and planning, either at a national or regional level, on land use and farmland protection.
