The mathematical part of technical computing, beside its mechanical counterpart, is very important for a simulation engineer, in order to get qualified results. Industrial software instruments for simulating multi-body dynamics are based on various dynamic system formulations, which have significant impact on results, so it is essential to know their mathematical background. The aim of this paper is to discuss the system formulation problem in multi-body dynamics software, namely ADAMS and SimMechanics.
