In this study, Fe_2O_3/Al_2O_3 catalyst was prepared by using co-precipitation method. The prepared catalyst was used to grow multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) bundles in a floating catalytic chemical vapor deposition reactor. The grown MWCNT bundles were characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Raman spectroscopy. The obtained data revealed that the prepared CNTs actually exist in bundles and these bundles should be attributed to the Fe_2O_3/Al_2O_3 catalyst in the absence of a transition metal Mo. The carbon yield was increased with an increase in Fe_2O_3/Al_2O_3 weight. For different weights of Fe_2O_3/Al_2O_3, the carbon yield was ranged from 68-93%. The surface defects were also increased with an increase in catalyst weight. High purity and yield owing low surface defects were found for 0.3 g catalyst. The average outer diameter of the grown CNT bundles was ranging from 240 to 550 nm. The formation of CNT bundles were found defective for the used catalyst weights above and below 0.3 g.
