Anytime outside breeding stock is introduced into a herd, it is important to account for the health status of both the resident herd and the incoming animals. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M. hyo) is a pathogen that must be considered when new breeding stock is introduced because it can be shed for greater than 200 days. This could result in a significant level of young piglet infection and down-stream clinical disease.
