摘要

Many harbours within the Great Lakes were constructed within river mouths. These harbours have the potential to accumulate sediment from both fluvial and lacustrine sources. Accumulation of sediment within the harbours impacts harbour usability and navigational safety. Sediment management studies were conducted for five harbours ranging from those dominated by fluvial processes to those dominated by longshore sediment transport processes. It was found that dredging was the most cost effective method of maintaining safe navigability at all the harbours. Dredging costs varied greatly depending on the source of sediment.
