Preparation of Fe_3O_4 with Solvothermal Method and Its Electrochemical Properties

This article describes a facile solvothermal method to prepare magnetite (Fe_3O_4) for electrode material using ethylene glycol (EG) as one of the raw material. The properties were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The as-prepared Fe_3O_4 as an electrode material was fabricated into supercapacitor and characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and galvanostatic charge/discharge measurements. The Fe_3O_4 particles disperse well and the size is about 50 nm. Saturation magnetization and coercive force of sample are 90.44 emu/g and 81.84 G, respectively. The specific capacitance is 50.2 F g~(-1) at 0.5 A g~(-1).
