This paper describes a state-of-the-art real-time Power & Desalination Assets Performance Monitoring system installed at Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL), a Captive Power Plant, located in Jebel-Ali, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). DUBAL is a group member of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) Company. The plant is capable of producing 2,350 MW of electric generating capacity and more than one million tonnes of aluminum per annum in today’s world of rapidly expanding aluminum products. DUBAL also produces over 130,000 m3/day of fresh water from its desalination plant. The DUBAL facility was established in 1979 to facilitate the diversification of the UAE’s economy by adding value to the country’s oil-rich resources. Over the last 30 years the power producing capacity at DUBAL has substantially increased from its original capacity of 480 MW to 2,350 MW. Today, DUBAL comprises of 23 gas turbines and 7 steam turbines with 5 condensing types and 2 back-pressures making the plant one of the most complex in the world. The gas turbines consist of units from the early GE Frame 5s to the most modern Alstom 13E2.
