An Empirical Study on the Construction Labor Union Operation for Working Environment Improvement

This research aims to suggest approaches to improve a poor working environment for site managers in South Korea and to develop the improvement directions which the construction labor union pursues.Survey focused on 20 firms belonging to the union was conducted for investigation over operation conditions of the construction labor union representing rights and interests of managers.The key outcomes of survey of this study are as follows.First, the 78 percent of construction managers affiliated with the union and monthly fee accounted for approximately 1 percent of their salary and the fee was spent for operation expense.Second, in order to improve the poor working conditions, the requirement for the expansion and creation of new private projects had the majority of opinions.Finally, the highest portion of respondents required that government regulations for the union need to be mitigated.
