Examining Hydroelectricity's Potential Role in the Alberta Market (PPT)

Alberta has significant untapped potential for hydro generation to meet its climate change reduction targets. Long lead time capital intensive electricity projects face major barriers in Alberta. Without government support for efficient regulatory processes, transmission infrastructure, a higher value for green power and measures to reduce risk due to Alberta's market design and project characteristics very little of this potential will likely be realized. Climate change policy will be the major driver if Alberta is to capture its hydro potential.
