A Study of Maritime Simulator Applications on Taiwan's Navigation Education curriculum

This study is to analyze and compare according to the given information the four aspects including: the International authentication standards of maritime simulation equipment, competency regulations towards seafarer's functions as listed in the Convention and code, opening of professional courses in the domestic maritime college department of shipping engineering, and current simulation facilities on the campuses. In this study, we have come to realize that the marine simulators that are installed in the campuses is enough to carry out the professional courses as required by the Convention regulations, however, in order for the campus to maintain and upgrade simulation facilities, the colleges have accepted and mainly been focusing on seafarer training as given by the Ministry of transportation and to deliver experiments entrusted by the harbor engineering company, which causes insufficient educational resources. Due to no training ships that are located in Taiwan's high-level maritime education, under the approval of the Convention and simulator authorization organizations, the maritime professional courses should fully use the current simulation facilities that are on the campuses, in order to raise the maritime education quality to the best of its ability.
