Innovations in mining arise not from new technological advances but from innovative thinking and the integration of technical methods in new ways. An example is in the characterisation activities conducted in a project, which may utilise new technologies for rock and mineral observation and measurement, and for geotechnical and metallurgical testing and modelling, but which produce data sets that are rarely brought together for aiding mine operations.
