In this paper, the bilayer nano-films of Pb(Zr_(0.52)Ti_(0.48))O3/CoFe2O4 (PZT/CFO) were prepared by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) from suspensions with superfine particles of PZT (30 nm) and CFO (40 nm). The PZT and CFO were synthesized via sol-gel and co-deposition method, respectively. Different solvents were tried. It is found that PZT in mixture solvent of acetic acid/acetylacetonel (1:1 volume ratio) and CFO in acetylacetone were the most stable suspensions (ξ= 50.2 mV and 38 mV). Effects of EPD process parameters such as suspension concentration, deposition time, and electrical field strength on the deposition weight were investigated. PZT layer was deposited onto Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrate, dried in air, and annealed at 750°C. CFO was deposited on annealed PZT layers. The PZT/CFO films were annealed at 700°C. The films exhibited excellent ferroelectricity (Ps = 30.2 μC/cm~2), ferromagnetism (Ms =160.7 emu/cm~3) and multiferroic properties (α_E = 5 mV/cmOe) simultaneously.
