Metaheuristic algorithms, emerged in the second half of the 20th century, are inspired by observations from nature, sociology, physics, mathematics etc. Methods based on meta-heuristic algorithms have proved to be very successful in solving optimization problems in engineering, science and technology. These methods are continuously increasing in number and their areas of application are gettingwider and wider parallel to the advances in computer capabilities both in hardware and software. Some advantages of meta-heuristic algorithms are that they can deal with scientific and engineering problems without necessitating complex mathematical expressions, and constraints can be handled with an amazing ease as compared to classical techniques. That is why engineers and scientists are recurring to meta-heuristic methods in solving their problems which can be formulated as numerical optimization problems forthepurpose of reaching to the optimal solution or at least to a near-optimal solution. The aim of this symposium is to bring together leading academicians and engineers working on metaheuristic methods and applications of these methods in solving real life problems.
