Speleogenesis is a result of dissolution of soluble rocks by groundwater. It is a complex interplay of many factors and processes leading to the evolution of secondary porosity and conduit networks in karst aquifers. Research on limestone dissolution has resulted in equations that relate limestone dissolution rates to chemical composition of water and to flow conditions at water-rock interface (Plummer et al., 1978; Buhmann and Dreybrodt, 1985; Eisenlohr et al., 1999; Kaufmann and Dreybrodt, 2007).
