Low to moderate strength, low density hollow microspheres have been produced and used in various thermoset applications for decades. The advent of high strength, low density glass microspheres that can survive high shear/pressure polymer processing operations, such as extrusion and injection molding, is now allowing thermoplastics processors to successfully process these functional fillers with high survival rates making target weight reductions possible.
