Polybenzoxazines are being examined as potential replacements for phenolic resins in many applications, e.g. microelectrics and aircraft interiors due to their desirable FST characteristics, high char yield (up to 80%), and good mechanical strength (100-125 MPa) [1]. With a good balance of properties and addition cure (auto-catalytic ring opening reaction, chain extension and crosslinking), they have the potential to challenge epoxy resins in some areas.
