摘要

In April, 2009 the Department of Energy (DOE) announced the investment of $41.9 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for fuel cell technology to accelerate the commercialization and deployment of fuel cells; and to build a robust fuel cell manufacturing industry in the United States with accompanying jobs in fuel cell manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and support services. Twelve grants have been awarded to develop and deploy a variety of fuel cell technologies including polymer electrolyte, solid oxide and direct-methanol fuel cells in stationary, portable, and specialty vehicle applications (i.e. lift trucks) (Figure 1). The cumulative cost share provided by the project teams is $54 Million, over 56% of the total cost of the projects. Nearly 1,000 fuel cell systems are planned, or have already been deployed, for emergency backup power for communication systems, material handling applications (i.e., lift trucks), combined heat and power for residential and commercial markets, and other applications.
