摘要

Harsh Environment FPSOs have experienced in-service problems associated with motions, wave loading and fatigue. We believe that these issues can be managed during the concept design phase in a positive way: A. Selecting a hull with a low block coefficient can lead to a marked reduction in global bending. B. This is expected to benefit the fatigue life of structural details subjected to cyclic global loads. C. There is a small but tolerable increase in pitch motions attributed to the reduced block coefficient. These can be recovered through the provision of appendages to mobilise viscous pitch damping.
