Graphene that consists of a single layer of carbon in a two dimensional lattice has attracted increasing attention in the recent years. Many methods such as mechanical cleavage [1], reduction of graphite oxide [2], epitaxial growth [3, 4], are used to prepare graphene. However, these methods take long time and get low yield of graphene. Chemical vapor deposition has recently been developed and extensively explored to grow large-area graphene, which greatly expands the applications of graphene [5]. In this work, an easy method of electric arc discharge is employed to prepare graphene fast and different gas atmospheres are used to show their influences on the preparation of graphene.
