Carbon materials with defined porosity can be prepared via the established nanocasting process using porous silica as template. [1] Many carbon materials with defined porosity in the micro- meso- and macropore range have been prepared this way that serve as excellent reference systems to study size effects. We successfully used hierarchical porous carbon monoliths as active anode material in lithium-ion batteries [2] and as support for PANI (supercapacitors) [3] and LiFePO4 (cathode material for Li-ion batteries). [4]
