PURPOSE: A carboneous material used as cathode active material of rechargeable lithium ion battery is provided for having remarkably higher recharge/discharge capacity than typical graphite carboneous material. CONSTITUTION: The carboneous material for cathodes of rechargeable lithium ion battery is produced by the vapor-phase deposit method comprising introducing argon gas at 1.0-1.4 l/min and providing 10-100% liquid propane gas as the reaction gas when the temperature reaches 800-1300 deg.C; after the reaction time of 1-5 hours, stopping the introduction of liquid propane gas and maintaining the temperature until the propane gas is completed removed in the reaction pipe; then further introducing argon gas, cooling the pipe, and producing soot as the carboneous material of cathode of the rechargeable battery.
