Heat mechanism and temperature characteristics of 40Ah LiFePO4 battery were studied. Based on the study and experimental results, battery temperature control objectives that the extreme temperature should be controlled in the 25~45 °C range and the temperature difference should be in 5 °C within the battery pack was proposed. By selecting the heat transfer medium, cooling and heating method, air flow structure, air supply method and optimizing the battery pack structure constantly, a more complete battery pack thermal management system was formed to reduce the temperature difference and control extreme temperature. Simulation results showed that the system achieved the temperature control objectives effectively and optimized the battery performance.
