To implement wide area positioning, we are developing a new under water positioning system based on Sound Propagation Loss (SPL). In the early research, we developed two methods for data processing, D-mode and R-mode. They are used for short distance measuring and long distance measuring respectively. Through a number of water tank experiments, we confirmed the validity of both methods. In this paper, we affirmed the application of those methods in the ocean environment, to analyze the speciality of ocean field. It is found that the noise level in sea is higher than that in water tank, the direct waves division turned easy because propagation space became larger. In this paper we'll show you the characteristics of received waves, SNR characteristic, positioning accuracy and so on. This demonstrates that our methods can be used enough in the sea, too.
