Three different control strategies for haemodynamic control of extra-corporeal circulation were developed, tested and compared to each other for the total cardiopulmonary bypass case. The controllers were tuned on robust stability and performance with a detailed model of the vascular system and the heart-lung machine. The control strategies were validated in simulation studies and on a haemodynamic vascular system simulator. All controllers were stable during simulations and in-vitro experiments in stationary and pulsatile control. An arterial blood flow controller with arterial pressure boundary control extension shows the best result.
