An assessment is discussed of the application of a high resolution 3-d laser scanner, to measure damage to rock armoured structures. Repeat surveys have been conducted at sites within Christchurch Bay, UK, including revetments, rock groynes and breakwaters. The technique is shown to provide detailed high resolution and repeatable data, which is appropriate to identify damage to rock armour, based on conventional damage measurement criteria. Practical limitations related to instrumentation set-up, applications and data processing are highlighted.
