Green Tea Polyphenol Extract Ameliorates Pancreatic Injury in Caerulein-induced Murine Acute Pancreatitis

This study investigates the effect of Green Tea Extracts (GTE) in a caerulein-induced murine model of acute pancreatitis (AP). AP was induced in mice by serial intraperitoneal administration of caerulein (hourly x6, 50mng/kg); in another group of animals GTE (25mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally at 1, 3 and 6 hours after the induction of AP. Animals were sacrificed at 24 hours after the first administration of caerulein. Treatment with GTE reduced biochemical features of AP. Levels of TNF-oc, along with neutrophil accumulation and malondialdheide levels were significantly reduced. Our results show that GTE significantly ameliorated the effects of caerulein-induced AP in mice.
