Low Temperature Densification of YSZ Electrolyte Films in SOFC

Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) has widely been used as electrolyte in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). With the YSZ nano-powders as raw materials, the YSZ thin electrolyte film was sintered by three-step sintering process during 1200~1300 °C. As a result, the YSZs films are dense with the grain size of 0.4~2μm, as well as the electrical conductivity is up to 0.2 s/cm at 1000 °C, and the active energy is 0.99~1ev. Based on the anode-support half-cell, the co-fired processes at 1250~1300 °C for 5~10h were achieved with the thickness of YSZ films of 15~20 μm made by screen printing process and good adhesion between the substrate and the electrolyte. The grain size of YSZ film is about 0.2-2μm. At the same time, the cathod-support half-cells were made by the co-fired process during 1200~1250°C for 3~10h. The thickness of the YSZ films is about 10~15μm made by dip-coating and the grain size is about 0.3-1μm.^
