Fundamental Lab for Engineering I, II and III at Kanazawa Institute of Technology are problem-finding and problem-solving oriented engineering experiment courses for first and second year undergraduate students. The students in the courses design and implement experiments to solve problems they found in a self-directed manner in team. The main objective of the courses is to train students to be able to use an experiment as a flexible tool for problem-finding and problem-solving by themselves. This paper explains the outline of these courses, and introduces students' actual experiment examples about room ventilation condition in these courses. Many students made a room model for the experiment. For the evaluation of wind direction distribution, a tuft or smoke was mainly used. For the evaluation of ventilatory volumes, smoke concentration changes, temperature changes, C02 or other gas concentration changes or absolute humidity changes was often used.
