The objective of this work was the conversion of glycerol-rich byproduct (GRP), obtained in biodiesel production facilities, into biopolymers using a Pseudomonas strain. Two distinct biopolymers were simultaneously produced: an extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) and intracellular polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB). In fed-batch mode, the maximum cellular PHB content was 39% of cell dry weight and the maximum EPS concentration was 12 g/l. The use of glycerol as carbon source greatly reduces production costs of the process, allowing for the valorization of GRP by its conversion to high-value products.
