UCC Dry Sorbent Injection, LLC (UCC DSI) has conducted numerous full scale DSI/ACI/fuel additive tests at coal-fired units in the United States. The most prevalent type of test over the last 18 months has been for simultaneous SO_2, HC1, and Hg removal to meet upcoming MATS and other compliance requirements on units using PRB coal. UCC DSI noticed early on that mercury removal performance with ACI and/or fuel additives could be suppressed by simultaneously injecting alkali sorbents (DSI) for acid gas removal. This paper presents the results of nine (9) such tests on PRB fired units. Trends observed during the tests are discussed, along with recommendations for the most effective choice of sorbents and injection locations.
