Development of new technologies for the production and characterization of various ultra fine powder is leading area of research. The exploding wire method is one such method for production of metal oxide nano powder. Different experimental setup with different wire mounting system were designed and developed for the production of metal nano powder to study the effect of rate of heating on the production of nano powder. Inductance of the system plays a critical role in exploding wire method as it affects the rate of current which determine the rate of heating of the wire. Inductance of both the setup was 146nH and 0.5μH. In the present study, copper wire of 0.26mm diameter was exploded in different exploding wire setup varying rate of current in the wire. The powder collected was characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). In this paper, we will present the detail experimental set up, the effect of different rate of change of current on the particle size and its distribution.
