The Audi A4 convertible has a tailgate made of SMC with an integrated antenna system. With the aim of reducing costs and weight as compared with the predecessor model, a predevelopment project was set up for a thermoplastic convertible top compartment cover for the A5 convertible. In this way the tailgate could be once again manufactured in an inexpensive sheet metal design and the antenna system integrated into the convertible top compartment cover.
