摘要

A full scale geomechanical study was carried out to evaluate hole stability during drilling and production, and sanding potential of Lower Miocene oil bearing sands in horizontal wells with planned open hole completion in a Malay Basin field, offshore Malaysia. Drilling information, well logs and rock mechanical test results were used to determine in situ stresses, pore pressure and rock mechanical properties in the field. This paper highlights the use of geomechanics principles integrated with sound drilling and completion practices to achieve and deliver highly productive wells in the field.
