Synthetic polymer membranes and film have been modified by many researchers by grafting with various kinds of functional monomers to improve their properties and performance in potential use. For example, the poly-acid modified membrane will be negatively charged at high pH, and at the same time, the pore size of the membrane will decrease accordingly. Because of this special property, these kinds of membranes have potential use in controlled release, selective filtration, sensors, etc. Our work focuses on the preparation and characterization of modified porous PAN membranes, and the transport of large charged molecules through these membranes.
