In this study, the equivalent material properties in the extruded aluminum panel were verified and used to predict the behavior of the car body of urban railway vehicles. Firstly, the four equivalent material properties proposed by Cote were examined through the comparisons with FE results. And then, three-point bending test on the aluminum panel was also simulated using homogenized core models having the equivalent properties. For more details, a model with additional ribs was simulated as well. Finally, a railway vehicle car body with equivalent properties was analyzed under a vertical load in comparison with corrugated core model (namely initial model). Consequently, the results were in good agreement with the FE simulations of the initial model. Other load cases also will be carried out at a future work.
